Our History
In July 2005, an
enthusiastic group of eight aspiring legal nurse consultants
founded The New York City Chapter of the American Association of
Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC). During formal "Legal Studies
for Nurses" classes at Hofstra University, Hempstead, New York
these vibrant women spoke often and fervently about starting a
chapter. Their passion was fueled when, as a group, they
attended the AALNC's 16th National Educational Conference in
Anaheim, California, in March 2005. All exceptional
professionals, the AALNC officers, membership/conference
attendees, program presenters, sponsors, and merchants of legal
nurse consulting industry products, greatly impressed the group
throughout their three-day odyssey. That experience, the
personal friendships that the group forged, the mentoring
relationships that they cultivated and the business alliances
that they initiated, all helped to solidify the group's resolve
toward their mutual goal. Seemingly at warp-speed, the group
executed their plan, and sought and obtained approval from the
National Association of Legal Nurse Consultants to form a
chapter and apply for chapter charter status.
Consequently, these
eight founding members are owners of legal nurse consultant
firms and sole proprietorships, are subcontractors, authors,
in-house consultants at law firms, with plaintiff’s or defense
attorneys, claims investigators, instructors in formal
university legal nurse consultant programs, and more. They
accompany clients to Independent Medical Exams, construct
chronologies and timelines, and some remain in active clinical
practice to remain skillful and serve as expert witnesses.
Collectively, the group has over 100 years clinical, critical
care, long term care and administrative nursing and business
experience, medical record review, adult continuing education
and various other entrepreneurial enterprises and interests.
